Laurel & James represents my family.  Born James Lance Bass and raised in Laurel, Mississippi, my brand will define the importance of home, traditions, and cherished memories.  My Southern roots will always be a significant part of who I am, but my experiences in other parts of the country and around the world have also shaped me.  Therefore, Laurel & James will be “A New Way to Southern.”  It is Southern, but modern. It is tradition, but with a new twist.  Laurel & James is a family endeavor that was inspired by our love of everything that makes a home so special.

Of course, we will start with food because that is how we have always celebrated family.  Some of my fondest memories are family get-togethers to celebrate just about anything:  New Year’s Day, Super Bowl Sunday, birthdays, graduations, weddings, baby showers, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.  Whatever the occasion, great food was at the center of it all. 

I have been a foodie for quite awhile, enjoying cooking for my friends and family.  My mom and I even participated in a cooking competition, My Kitchen Rules, where we showcased Southern-inspired dishes.  Also Chefd.com gave me the opportunity to create meal kits featuring some of my favorite recipes.  Most of the recipes that Laurel & James will be using are those that have been enjoyed by our family for years.  The majority of the recipes are from my grandmother and my mother, but I have also collected some great recipes that I am eager to share.
